Playhouse Merced is holding auditions for their final two shows of the season.

The theatre is holding auditions for “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” at 1 p.m. March 29 and auditions for “Noises Off” at 1 p.m. April 5.

“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” is a musical based on the infamous “chicken ranch” in Le Grange, Texas. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing 16 bars of music.

“Noises Off” is comedy that is a play within a play as the antics going on behind the scenes start to upstage the action on stage. Those auditioning should prepare a one to two minute story to tell.

Auditions are at 452 West Main Street in downtown Merced.

YES Company is holding open auditions for their upcoming performances of “Peter Pan.”

The company is looking for actors, singers, dancers, and crew members from students in 7th to 12th grade.

Auditions will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the California State University, Stanislaus theatre and 4:30 p.m. at Johansen High School in Modesto.

Rehearsals will run from June to July with the shows set for July 18 to July 27 at the Gallo Center for the Arts.

Those auditioning will be taught a short musical and dance number to perform.

Those interested in crew work must attend an audition to apply.

Tuition for the show is $200 and scholarships are available.

Showcase exhibit opens at Carnegie

From more than 200 entries, jurors have selected 84 works that will be on display in the annual Carnegie Art Showcase exhibition taking place this summer at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock. The juried exhibition is a celebration of artistic excellence. The show opened Wednesday and will be on view in the CAC’s Ferrari Gallery until Sept. 5.
