An opportunity to explore Turlock’s downtown art scene is coming up with the second Art Around Town event on July 9.

Art Around Town is a series of evening art walks featuring free, family-friendly events at a number of downtown Turlock arts venues and businesses. The event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Attendees of the art walk may stroll between several art galleries located on and near Main Street to view and purchase art, while browsing local businesses that choose to include local artists or musicians at their stores on event nights.

The Carnegie has two exhibits that will be open for the art walk. The first is “Ready, Set, Show!” The exhibit is the Carnegie’s first youth art exhibition. Children in grades K-8 were invited to present their creative work to the public in the Carnegie’s Ferrari Gallery. Over 100 pieces, created by 95 young artists were brought in for the show. Children from Turlock, Hilmar, Ceres, Denair, Winton, Cressey, Delhi, Stevinson and Hughson have work on display. In order to encourage young artists, a hands-on station is located in the gallery itself while the show is on view and every guest is encouraged to make some art during their visit.

Also on view in July at the Carnegie is the Photo Collective Annual Members’ Exhibition, in the Lobby Galleries. This show features works by a dozen members of this longstanding regional photography club. The photographs are diverse, ranging from beautiful color landscapes to detailed black and white still life subjects.

Admission is free to both exhibitions.

New to the walk this time is Rustic Roots, which will be showcasing hand-crafted and vintage furniture and paintings by Claudia Silva-Doo.

First Street Gallery and Frame Company will feature artist Moira Donohoe. A plein air and studio oil painter, her work is distinguishable by thick impasto style and bright use of color. Born and raised in Yosemite, Donohoe splits time between Mariposa and Modoc counties where she lives and works. A reception for Donohoe will be held during the art walk.

Art Space on Main is showing Selected, which is an exhibit of works from the graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts students selected into Masters and Education programs at California State University, Stanislaus. The artists included in the exhibit are: Timothy Brown Jr., Jessica DeTomasi, Janet Diaz, Victoria Johnson, Jeanine Lewis, and Hannah Walker. A reception is planned for 5;30 p.m. July 9 with an artist talk at 6 p.m.
