Attacker gets 14 years

A Turlock man, who carried out an unprovoked attack on a woman by slashing her cheek with a knife, was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Monday.

Forty-eight year old Robert Gallegos, also known as Robert Waln, was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an illegal weapon, and failure to register as a transient sex offender. He also admitted having caused great bodily injury, having committed a prior serious felony, and having served two prior prison terms, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.The case against Gallegos arose out of events that transpired on Jan. 28, in which Gallegos maliciously slashed a woman’s left check, according to the prosecution. The attack happened in front of a witness. The prosecution said Gallegos cut the woman without any kind of provocation.The attack left the victim with a permanent 2-inch scar across her face.Turlock Police Officer Nate Urban investigated the case and two days after the attack he arrested Gallegos. At the time of his arrest, Gallegos was still in possession of the knife, as well as a pair of brass knuckles.
