Deputies raid rooster fights

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies busted up a cockfighting ring Sunday afternoon in Patterson, but continue to seek the ringleaders.

The fight was taking place in the 11000 Block of Cox Road outside of Patterson and when deputies arrived more than 50 men were seen running away, according to the sheriff’s department.

Several of the men jumped into the San Joaquin River to get away from the deputies.

In an old building on the property deputies found 35 live roosters in wood boxes. They also found about 50 dead roosters inside and outside of the building. Animal control was called to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and the sheriff’s department asks anyone with information about the cockfighting ring to call 525-7114.Tipsters can also leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
