Drunk driving crackdown

A Labor Day weekend drunk driving crackdown by the Avoid the 12 campaign resulted in multiple arrests.
The Turlock Police Department, which oversees the Avoid the 12 program in Stanislaus County, reported eight driving under the influence arrests during a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on Saturday night.
All total, 501 drivers went through the checkpoint on Lander Avenue. In addition to the eight DUI arrests, there were 21 arrests for driver’s license violations and 21 vehicles were impounded.
A similar operation in Ceres on Friday saw 866 vehicles screened and resulted in nine driver’s license violations, two DUI arrests and 11 vehicles impounded.
