A 26-year-old Gustine man was arrested by the Merced County Sheriff’s Department on Monday on allegations he killed his 9-month-old son.
Andrew Sanchez, 26, was arrested on suspicion of murder for the death of his son Maddix Ramsour on March 5, said sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Delray Shelton.
On March 5, medical personnel were dispatched to a home in the 30000 block of Cottonwood Road in Gustine after a report of an infant that was not breathing was received by emergency dispatch. The child was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he was pronounced dead.
Sanchez told the medical staff the baby sustained an injury after falling off a bed and the injury caused him to quit breathing. The hospital informed the sheriff’s department of the incident and the Major Crimes Unit was brought in to investigate the death, Shelton said.
“Sheriff’s detectives deemed the story given by Sanchez did not coincide with the baby’s injuries,” Shelton said.
A medical pathologist recently ruled the death a homicide, Shelton said.
Sanchez is being held at the Merced County Jail in lieu of a $1 million bail on a charge of first-degree murder.
