Hilmar man attacked, stabbed seven times

An uncooperative victim and very little suspect information have left Merced County Sheriff’s investigators with few leads in the case of a Hilmar man stabbed seven times.
The 24-year-old man has been treated for his injuries and released from a Modesto hospital, according to sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.
The victim has not been very forthcoming with information about the attack.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation,” MacKenzie said. “All we know at this time is the victim was involved in some kind of fight, but with who or how many we still don’t know.”
Around 2 a.m. Sunday the sheriff’s department responded to the 19000 block of American Avenue in Hilmar and found the 24-year-old man bleeding from several stab wounds.
The victim had left his mother’s home on American Avenue in his pickup truck Saturday night, saying he was going to a barbecue. Just before midnight the victim telephoned his mother and said he had been stabbed and uttered the word “hospital,” MacKenzie said.
The mother, thinking he was on his way to the hospital, picked up her daughter at a different residence and started for Emanuel Medical Center, when she received a second call from his phone. This time there was another man on the phone saying he was at her house with her son who needed to go to the hospital, MacKenzie said.
When the mother and daughter got there, they found the victim in the passenger seat bleeding, with another vehicle in the street and an unknown man by the driver’s side of the victim’s truck, MacKenzie said.
“As soon as mother and sister arrived, the man took off in the other vehicle,” MacKenzie said.
The victim was air-lifted to a Modesto hospital where he was treated for seven stab wounds: Four to the left side of his body; one to the left side of the lower part of his neck; one to his middle back; and one to his lower back.
There is no description of the man who drove the victim to his mother’s house or the vehicle he left in. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Department at 385-7472.
