Homemade firecracker brings out bomb squad

A suspicious object found in Pedretti Park Wednesday afternoon prompted the evacuation of the park and a visit from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad.

Just before 1 p.m., city crews found a 10-inch long cylinder with electrical tape wrapped around it in the picnic area of the park at 2400 Tegner Rd. The Turlock Police department was contacted and they in turn brought out the county bomb squad.

The bomb squad determined the device was a homemade or modified firework and destroyed it.
