A Turlock man is facing a litany of charges after he stole a U.S. Postal truck Tuesday morning.

Thomas Rodrigues, 30, was arrested on suspicion of carjacking and driving under the influence. He also had a warrant for failure to appear on a stalking case.

Around 11:20 a.m. the Turlock Police Department received reports of a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Spruce Street. A least one caller reported a man was trying to kick in doors at the complex.

As officers were en route to the disturbance a call was received of an auto theft that had just occurred in the 600 block of Vermont Avenue.

The first officer was flagged down by a mailman, who said someone had just stolen his mail truck. The mailman said he was out on his route when the suspect pushed him down, took his keys, and then fled in the truck.

An officer spotted the truck in the area of E. Linwood Avenue and Ninth Street and apprehended Rodrigues without incident.
