Man shot to death outside Turlock auto parts store
turlock police day
A Turlock man was fatally gunned down Monday afternoon outside an auto parts store, the Turlock Police Department reported.
The victim was identified by the police department as Joel Lopez Guzman, 39.
The shooting happened around 3:40 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of O'Reilly Auto Parts store at 1601 Lander Avenue in Turlock.
Guzman was standing next to his white Toyota sports utility vehicle when he was struck by multiple gunshots, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley. Guzman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
This vehicle was towed from the scene, as evidence, and investigators are working on search warrants so the vehicle can be processed in hopes of locating additional evidence, Parmley said.
Witnesses were contacted on scene, interviewed and were able to provide a description possibly of the suspect's vehicle. Parmley said a newer model gray sedan was last seen fleeing on southbound Lander Avenue.
A motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.
"This remains an on-going investigation and detectives are working to identify all of the parties involved in this incident," Parmley said.
