A Turlock woman was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment after Turlock Police officers found her 1-year-old and 5-year-old children wandering near a busy intersection.

The incident began sometime before 8 p.m. Tuesday when two women saw two young children alone at the intersection of Walnut and Tuolumne roads. One of the women recognized the children as two she had seen playing earlier that day outside a residence in the 2600 block of Porsche Strasse, said Turlock Police Officer Mayra Lewis.

The woman made contact with a woman at the house, later identified as Teresa Ramirez, and asked if her children were missing. Ramirez told the woman no her children were not missing and the woman left, Lewis said.

The two women who found the children contacted the police. The police were at the scene with the children when Ramirez arrived and told the officers she was the mother of the two children.

Officers accompanied Ramirez back to her residence for a security check and found a rifle and a loaded firearm that was accessible to the children, Lewis said.

In addition to the 1-year-old and 5-year-old, there was a 7-year old and a 7-month old at the house. Ramirez was the only adult in the home.

Officers seized the weapons and contacted Child Protective Services to investigate the matter. Ramirez was booked on suspicion of felony child endangerment.
