A collision between three vehicles along a stretch of road between Turlock and Patterson, which resulted in one vehicle igniting, left one person dead and one seriously injured.

The deceased man has not yet been identified, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at 6:42 p.m. Wednesday on W. Main Street, east of Carpenter Road.

The deceased was driving a 2014 Buick westbound on W. Main Street. Nicholas Stanley, 33, of Turlock was driving a 2006 Chevrolet eastbound on W. Main Street, followed by Patricia Verducci, 56, of Patterson in a 2014 GMC.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Buick allowed the vehicle to pass into the eastbound lane, where it struck the Chevrolet.

The Buick then continued in the eastbound lane and struck the GMC, according to the CHP.

The Buick came to a rest on the south shoulder of the road, where it ignited in fire, the CHP reported.

The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Verducci sustained major injuries from the collision and was transported to Memorial Medical Center.

Stanley was uninjured from the crash, according to the CHP.

It's unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
