A Ripon man previously convicted of shooting a man to death outside a Turlock bar, has been denied parole.

According to court records, Efrain Rodriquez was at Lupe’s Bar in Modesto around midnight on Feb. 26, 1994 and got into a fight with Rene Martinez after Martinez knocked over his beer. Rodriguez pulled out a semi-automatic Ruger pistol and shot Martinez three times, killing him.

Less than a month later Rodriguez shot another man to death. Rodriguez and another companion were drinking at Corina’s Bar at South First Street in Turlock around 1 a.m. March 20, 1994. During a dispute in the bar’s parking lot, Rodriguez shot Jose Rivera to death with the same .22 Ruger pistol.

Rodriguez pled guilty to charges of second -degree murder and voluntary manslaughter, both with enhancements for the personal use of a firearm. On May 2, 1996, he was sentenced to state prison for 19 years to life.

Rodriguez was found unsuitable for parole at a May 16, hearing of the State Board of Parole Hearings in California State Prison, Solano. He was previously denied parole in June 2006. He is eligible again in three years.
