Turlock police officers investigating a disturbance at a fast food restaurant arrested a suspected bike thief after the stolen bike was placed right next to the officers.

Officers were responded to a report of a disturbance at the Jack in the Box restaurant at 100 Golden State Boulevard around noon Friday. As officers were there, two men rode up on bikes.

One man, identified as John Gonzalez, rode up on a green mountain bike and Gary Reinhardt, 21, rode up on a black Giant mountain bike, which was left in a planter box next to a patrol car.

The officers recognized the black mountain bike as one that had been stolen the night before. Officers had seen Gonzalez riding the bike prior to receiving a report that it was stolen, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

While both men were in the eatery the officers checked the serial number on the Giant, which showed that it had been stolen.

Officers detained both men, during which Reinhardt attempted to dump a bottle of Tramadol and methamphetamine, but officers stopped him.

Reinhardt was cited and released for the drug possession, while Gonzalez was booked on a charge of burglary.
