Suspect caught with stolen chainsaw

A report of a chainsaw stolen from a backyard in Turlock was found shortly thereafter the report was made when a man was seen walking in the area with the same chainsaw, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday the police department was notified of a theft that had occurred sometime in the previous 12 hours in the 1100 block of E. Minnesota Avenue.

Around that time a citizen reported a suspicious incident in which a man was seen walking in the 100 block of W. Tuolumne Road with a chainsaw in his arms.

An officer spotted the man in the 400 block of W. Tuolumne Road and took him into custody. The suspect, identified as Trevon Packer, 26, told the officer a friend had given him the chainsaw.

The homeowner was able to provide officers with a serial number which matched the one etched into the chainsaw, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Packer was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
