The theft of a pair of sunglasses from a convenience store escalated into a robbery when the suspect threatened to shoot the store clerk, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The incidnet was reported at 2:47 a.m. Monday in the 3400 block of W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The store clerk refused to sell the suspect a pack of cigarettes, "due to history of the subject stealing from the business in the past," said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.

The suspect got upset and threatened to shoot the store clerk, though no gun was seen.

The suspect then left the business with a pair of sunglasses he did not pay for, Parmley said.

Officers checked the area but were not able to locate the suspect. He was described as an Indian man in his 20s. He stands about six feet, four inches tall and 160 pounds. He has shoulder length hair.
