Teen attempts real robbery with fake gun

A 15-year-old boy was apprehended Saturday night after attempting to rob a man with a toy gun in Donnelly Park, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of attempted armed robbery. No injuries were reported from the incident.

Shortly after 10 p.m. the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to Donnelly Park at 600 Pedras Road after a man called to report a robbery.

The teenager approached the man in the park with a realistic looking toy pistol and demanded his cell phone. The man, however refused to hand over his phone and the teenager ran from the park, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Neil Cervenka.

A patrol officer was in the area when the incident was reported and spotted the suspect about two blocks from the park, Cervenka said.

The 15-year-old suspect was apprehended and the toy gun was found in a nearby vehicle that the teenager was associated with, according to the police report.
