The Merced County Sheriff’s Department arrested two teenagers on charges stemming from a break-in at a Hilmar market.

The two teenagers, both 16-year-old Hispanic males, are accused of stealing liquor and a hookah pipe from the store, said Merced Sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

The market on Lander Avenue had been hit on several occasions over the past few weeks, with the thieves gaining entry through the roof, MacKenzie said.

After conducting follow up investigation, Deputy Preston Sanchez was able to identify two 16-year old juveniles as being responsible. During questioning, one of the juveniles confessed to the latest burglary where the liquor and pipe were stolen, but denied the other break-ins.

Three of the six liquor bottles were recovered and the pipe had been smashed prior to arrest. The juveniles were arrested on charges of burglary.
