The Turlock Police Department has taken a local man into custody on allegations he was trafficking in child pornography.

Gary Bishop, 42, was taken into custody Thursday on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $1,030, 000 bail.

Bishop had been the subject of a police investigation for more than a month after investigators received information that he was sharing pornographic images involving children online.

In August a search warrant was served at Bishop’s Turlock residence. Several computer hard drives were taken during that time for further examination. This search revealed over 10,000 images of child pornography, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

At this point in the investigation detectives have not received any information indicating Bishop has personally victimized any children.

Bishop has not had any other criminal charges filed against him in the past in Stanislaus County, according to a search of court records.

Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Tim Redd at 664-7325. You can also contact the Turlock Police Department’s Tip Line at 668-5550 extension 6780 or email at tpdtipline@turlock.ca.us.
