A Turlock woman was involved in a fatal crash on Sunday along Highway 99 in Ceres.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 9:24 p.m. Sunday when a 1997 Lexus turned over after hitting the guardrail of the freeway center divide.

The female passenger inside the car, Kalaina Tolden, 25, of Antioch was pinned in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters. She died of blunt force trauma to the head in the ambulance on the way to Doctors Medical Center.

The driver of the car, Carlaun Williams, 24, of Turlock, sustained minor lacerations, including lacerations to his left wrist.

The CHP said it appears that Williams was speeding and lost control seconds prior to the solo crash.

They also said that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the driver losing control.
