Free science lessons at MJC

The Science, Math and Engineering Division at Modesto Junior College will present two series of free science presentations as part of the Modesto Area Partners in Science programs and weekly Science Colloquiums.
The first MAPS presentation, entitled “David & Goliath in the Amazon,” features Emmy winning filmmaker Larry Lansburgh and his story of how the Achuar, a small indigenous group known as “dream people of the Amazon,” triumphed over big oil. The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in Forum 110 on the east campus.
Additional fall 2009 MAPS presentations include: “This is Your Life On Science” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Auditorium of the Performing & Media Arts Center; “Saving the Ocean Planet” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in Forum 110; “Tornadoes in the San Joaquin Valley” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in Forum 110; “Nutrition and Your Carbon Footprint” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in Forum 110.
The Science Colloquiums will be presented from 2:20 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. each Tuesday in Science 213 on the east campus. Topics will include solar cooking, health careers, global population growth and global climate change.
