Emanuel offers free blood pressure checks, support groups

Emanuel Medical Center is wishing Turlock a happy Valentine’s Day with free blood pressure checks. Hearts are the universal symbol of the holiday of love, and Emanuel is showing its love by giving the free checks from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the Education Training Room.

Emanuel Medical Center is offering several free classes and support groups in the month of February to increase awareness of health issues in the community. Support groups offer people an outlet for dealing with the stress of illness, coping with their new lifestyle changes, and meeting people with similar life circumstances.

Living with Diabetes is a two-day class for people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or those looking for a refresher in diabetes management. There is no charge for the class, but a physician referral is required. Call 664-2580 for details and registration. The class will be held on Feb. 7 and Feb. 9 from 2p.m. to 4 p.m. at Emanuel Medical Center in Conference Room C.

Cancer Support Groups meet at Emanuel Cancer Center at 880 E. Tuolumne Ave. and are free of charge. Cancer in Your Life is a support group for current and former adult cancer patients. It meets on the first and third Friday of every month from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Emanuel Cancer Center. Children ages 5 to 13 who have a loved one with cancer can join Monkey Business. The group has a new session that is scheduled to begin in February. This group helps children deal with a loved one’s diagnosis in a positive, constructive way. Look Good Feel Better is a one-day class offered by the American Cancer Society to teach beauty techniques to women actively undergoing cancer treatment. This class will be held on Feb. 27 at Emanuel Cancer Center. Call 664-2434 for more information or to register.
