Jessica’s House will be hosting an open house for the community on Thursday in recognition of National Children’s Grief Awareness Day.
Children’s Grief Awareness Day is designed to bring awareness of the needs of grieving children and the benefits they obtain through the support of others. It is nationally recognized every year on the third Thursday of November and promoted by the National Alliance for Grieving Children.
Jessica’s House helps create a healthier community by providing a safe place for children, teens, young adults and their families grieving the death of a loved one. Participants learn to express themselves through art and play in a therapeutic setting that promotes friendship with others who are affected by a similar loss. This helps counter the felt isolation children experience after the death of a parent or sibling. It also helps them find coping skills and comfort with others who understand.
Jessica’s House offers this support at no cost to grieving families as they find their own path during the healing process.
In support of National Children’s Grief Awareness Day, Jessica’s House welcomes the public to an open house. They will be offering an espresso bar, light breakfast fare, raffle prizes and tours. Guests are encouraged to show their support by wearing blue. T-shirts will be sold onsite.
The open house will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 741 East Main St., Turlock.
