The Turlock Police Department is investigating the death of a Hilmar man who died in Turlock Thursday night after falling from a moving vehicle.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Maicot Yardely Martinez, 28, of Hilmar. Martinez died around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Martinez was a front seat passenger in a vehicle that was traveling in the 4500 block of Geer Road, when for an unknown reason he fell out of the vehicle, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

A physician passing by the area stopped to render first aid until emergency first responders arrived at the scene. However, the injuries were too severe and Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s unknown how fast the vehicle was moving at the time of his fall. He was not hit by any other vehicles, Holeman said.

At this time in the investigation it is unknown if the fall was accidental or intentional, Holeman said. Alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the incident.

A GoFundMe page started for Martinez states he was married to his high school sweetheart, Shannon Martinez, and that they had three young daughters, including a one-month-old baby girl.

“He loved all his girls with his whole heart,” said Jessica Salazar, who created the page. “His death was very sudden and unexpected. Any donations will go to his family to support funeral costs and help with any financial needs.”
