Motorcycle crash claims life of Hilmar High student
chp

A 15-year-old Hilmar High School student was killed Sunday in a motorcycle collision with a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deceased was identified by the Merced County Coroner's Office as Luke Mancebo, 15. Mancebo was a student at Hilmar High School. The CHP stated he was a Turlock resident.

Mancebo was driving a 2002 Yamaha Trail motorcycle north on Flower Street, approaching Bradbury Road.

The CHP report states Mancebo failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection just as a 2010 Kenworth semi-truck was approaching. The intersection has two posted stop signs on Clausen and Flower Street, but none on Bradbury.

The Kenworth driver did not have time to stop and the truck collided with the motorcycle.

Mancebo was not wearing a helmet, according to the CHP. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the big rig, 28-year-old Jonathan Calderon of Turlock, was not injured and remained at the scene. He is cooperating with the investigation.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
