Lourdes Calderon and her sons, George Sanchez, 6, and Victor Sanchez, 4, all of Keyes, turned out for the Keyes Library’s Feb. 19 craft session where participants made paper pigeons. The craft was in celebration of Mo Willems,  an American writer, animator, and creator of children’s books who often uses pigeons in his work.

It’s a warm Central California night and Dave Colnic is sitting outside the dining hall at the We Care homeless shelter, relaxing after having helped prepare a dinner of chicken Alfredo, green beans, bread, watermelon, and cookies for dessert.
