When the starting bell rings at the Belmont Stakes come Saturday it will kick off what could be a historic horse race and start a flurry of cheering at betting parlors across the country, including the Turlock Turf Club.

The Turlock Turf Club is expecting a big turnout Saturday as California Chrome looks to lay claim to the elusive Triple Crown.

“After the excitement surrounding the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, we are thrilled to bring the Belmont Stakes live, here in Turlock,” said Chris Borovansky, chief executive officer for the Stanislaus County Fair. “History could be made at Belmont for California horse racing.”

A sizeable crowd was on hand at the Turlock Turf Club when California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby. When he crossed the finish line in first place at the Preakness, an estimated crowd of 500 were at the Turlock Turf Club to cheer him on. Saturday could see double that amount, which is why the Turlock Turf Club is bringing in more help to handle all the wagering.

The Turlock Turf Club will open their doors at 8 a.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 per person. The facility has multiple big screens to watch the races, as well as an eatery and a bar. Saturday’s festivities also will feature special promotions and giveaways.
