Miss Poinsettia

Miss Poinsette Contest

The Center for Urban Performance and Westside Ministries will once again put on a holiday show with this year’s presentation of “Miss Poinsettia Contest” on Saturday at the Turlock Community Theatre.

This light-hearted, Broadway-style musical comedy will pit the debutantes against the bedrocks competing for one crown. Who will win?

The show will include a variety of dance styles from ballet to hip hop, tap, folkorico and aerial arts. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased @westsideministriesturlock's bio under the CUPS Dance & Music tab, over the phone at 209-667-9020 or in person on the day of the event.

The Turlock Community Theatre is located at 1574 E. Canal Dr., Turlock.

Twisted Nutcracker

Backstage Academy of Dance will present its 26th annual “Twisted Nutcracker” show Dec. 15 and 16 at the Turlock Community Theatre.

“Twisted Nutcracker” still tells the classic holiday story of Clara’s Christmas Eve journey through the Land of Sweets, but the Academy has expanded the style in which the story is told. The show features a cast of 100 dancers, ranging in age from 5 years to over 35 years, performing jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap and other dance styles.

Shows will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and 11 a.m. and 3 pm. Dec. 16. A Sugar Plum Party will follow each performance. For tickets, call 209-667-8511.
