Adeline R. Carvalho

Adeline, 88, passed away peacefully at home after a short illness with her family by her side.

She was born in Brentwood, CA. to Emilio and Rosa Maciel. The family moved to the Crows Landing / Turlock area in 1926, then to Seaside in 1937.  In 1941 Adeline married her true and only love of her life Joe A Carvalho and together they operated a dairy on Central Ave. In 1952 they moved their operation to the dairy on Crows Landing Road and they lived there until 1980 when they started their almond ranch on the property where Joe had lived as a young boy.

 

Adeline was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, She and Joe were Past Presidents of the Turlock Pentecost Association in 1965, and she served as the First Lady of the former S.E.S. in 1974-1975. She belonged to several Portuguese Fraternal Organizations including: The Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (P.F.S.A.) Councils in Modesto, Turlock, & Newark; The Luso American Society of Turlock; The S.P.R.S.I. of Turlock and Stevinson; St. Anthony of Turlock; Cabrillo Civic Club of Modesto and the I.S.M.M. circle #15. Adeline also was a member of the Young Ladies Institute Ave Regina #200 of Turlock, The Turlock Friendship Club, Turlock TOPS, Blue Diamond Almond Growers Association and the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau.

 

Adeline always put her family first and cherished her many friends as if they too were part of her family. She and her smile will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

Adeline loved to travel and go on cruises with her husband Joe then after he passed with her friends and family. Adeline also loved to crochet and many of her family and her friends all have something she had crocheted. For the past 9 years Adeline has crocheted lap blankets for the Ronald McDonald houses in Sacramento and Fresno for the children who had siblings undergoing treatments, Adeline had made well over 250 of these blankets and did so until her eyes and her hands no longer could.

 

She is survived by her sons John A Carvalho and wife Nancy, and Joe E Carvalho all of Modesto; son James J Carvalho and  wife Fran of Crows Landing; her sister Emily Ventura and husband John of Seaside; Her grandchildren Danny Carvalho of Modesto, Julie Martin Carvalho of Ballico, Michael Carvalho and wife Alison of Crows Landing and Melissa Carvalho of Turlock; great granddaughters: Alexxis Carvalho,  Aryssa Carvalho, Aryana Carvalho, Annika Mires  of Ballico and Mallory Carvalho of Crows Landing and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Adeline was preceded in death by her father Emilio Maciel in 1929,  her adopted father Joe Mello in 1980,  her mother Rosa Alvernaz Maciel Mello in 1995,  her husband of 43 years Joe A Carvalho in 1984,  her grandson Andrew Carvalho in 1998; her sister Rosie Costa in 2009 and her sister Mary Mello in 2010.

 

A combination rosary/mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Turlock, 1200 Lyons Ave on Monday, Sept. 10 at 10a.m. with entombment to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
