Annik Ann Bakus

Ann Bakus was born on June 23, 1931 in Baghdad, Iraq to Henry and Ashkhen George.  She passed into God’s presence on July 9, 2016.  She came to America as a Christian immigrant in her teen years, graduated from Turlock High School and attended Modesto Junior College.  She obtained her citizenship and was very proud to be an American.  She married Ephraim Bakus in Turlock, CA on August 23, 1959 and had three children, Robert Bakus of Turlock, CA, Susan Bakus of Ceres, CA, and Karen Meade of Turlock, CA.

Ann worked as a seamstress before going into nursing.  She began her nursing career at Elness Nursing Home and worked as an industrial nurse at Banquet Foods for 16 years, both in Turlock, CA.  She was a lifelong member of the Assyrian church, Mar Addai Parish, also in Turlock.

As the wife of an Air Force veteran, she proudly participated in many veteran’s charities and fundraisers during her active years.  She loved cooking and the company of her beloved family and friends.  She had a fondness for pets, both hers and others’. Despite her many health challenges in recent years, she kept her faith in God and was a fighter until the very end.

She is survived by her three loving children; her brothers George Joseph of San Pablo, CA, Edward George of Clovis, CA, and Albert George of Ceres, CA; her sisters Ankin Najjar and Anoush Ahid, both of Turlock, CA; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her sister Anahid George, as well as her husband.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7p.m. on Thur., July 14, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock.  A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Fri., July 15, at the same location.
