Charles M. Harris, 93, died Oct. 18 in Salem, Ore. He was born to Charles A. and Bertha Harris in Denair in 1917. He attended Denair schools, Modesto Jr. College, and UC Berkeley. He worked in mapping for the U.S. Forest Service in Ventura County until 1942, then joined the Navy and served in the Pacific until the end of WW II. He returned to Denair and was involved in farming full-time until he started working in the Stanislaus County Assessor’s office in the early 1960s. After retirement he became a licensed farm property appraiser.

Charles served 18 years on the Denair School Board, and was a member of the Denair FFA Advisory Board. He and wife, Frances, loved to travel, but enjoyed returning home to Denair. His family will miss him.

He is survived by his sons, Joel Harris (Lynn) and Kent Harris (Marsha); grandson, David Harris; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Frances; and sisters, Azelea Marie and Leila.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Lakewood Memorial Park Riverside Chapel, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson.
