Edith Pittman, age 89, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, California. She was born in Canistota, South Dakota on Thanksgiving Day in 1923 to John and Emily (Nelson) Eichhorn. Edith moved with her family to Turlock, in 1936. After attending the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, San Jose Bible College, and Modesto Junior College, Edith taught at Central School. After she finished her degree at San Francisco State University she taught third grade at Chatom Elementary School in Turlock until 1967. She taught in El Centro and later moved to National City and then to Chula Vista. She and her husband Dean Pittman retired and moved to Los Osos. She continued teaching at Los Osos Baptist Church Preschool
Edith loved art, Chinese checkers, and the outdoors, including gardening, fishing, and raising animals. She was an avid painter and children enjoyed her “chalk talks,” public drawings which were set to stories.
Edith was preceded in death by her brothers Allen and Jarod; sister, Vera Larson, husband, Dean Pittman; son Jan Pino; and granddaughter Annette Frost. Edith is survived by her daughter, Lois (John) Dymond; son Theodore (Carol) Pino; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30th at noon at Los Osos Valley Cemetery.
