Emma was born on October 9, 1926 in Harjo, Oklahoma to Maggie Bryson and Max Marx.  She was the youngest of three girls.  Her sisters were Mary Marx and Etta Marx.  She was preceded by both her sisters and her parents.

Emma was married to Runles Rogers Hughes on July 27, 1940 until his death in 1972.  They moved to California in 1940 and had three children Darlene (Ron King:  Tammy Harris, Bryan King and Sheryl King), Wilma (Don Olson:  Bill Olson and Karen Langston) and Danny Hughes (Jane Hughes:  Robert Hughes, Todd Hughes and Steven Hughes).   She is also survived by many step-grandchildren great and great-great grandchildren.

She remained in Turlock until she met and married Larry L. Kirton on March 8, 1975.  They had a whirlwind romance and married after only knowing each other for a few weeks, but their love continued until she took her last breath.  They made their home in Richmond, California and were inseparable until his death on December 14, 2002.  She then returned to Turlock in 2003 to be close to her family.

After becoming ill in 2006, Emma moved into Elness Convalescent Home in Turlock and remained a resident until her death.  The Family would like to thank all the nurses, caregivers and staff of Elness for the kind, loving and devoted care they gave to Emma over the years.

Emma spent her days crocheting blankets for many different organizations which she did for several years.  She will be remembered by many people whose lives were touched in some way by her kind and giving heart.     A private graveside service is being planned for the family to lay Emma to rest with her husband, Larry Kirton, in Vallejo, California.
