Gene Barrington, 72, of Newman, lost his battle with cancer at Brandel Manor in Turlock. He will be remembered for his tender heart and wry sense of humor.
Born in La Junta, Colorado to Hurd (Jr) and Marjorie Barrington, he moved with his family to California at two years of age. Gene graduated from Orestimba High School in June 1962 and married Lynda Carroll in July. They had four children and were married for 16 years. In 1980, Gene married Gale Wyatt.
From an early age, Gene wanted to be a pilot like his father. He earned his pilot’s license in his early 20’s and flew all of his life. Gene was a truck driver in the central valley for over 15 years. He and Gale also lived and worked in Alaska and Virginia City, Nevada, a town that held a special place in Gene’s heart. Gene was a proud member of the OS Club, a group of close-knit friends in Newman.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Robert “Robby” Eugene, and his wife, Gale. He is survived by his three daughters: Gena Barrington Larson (David) of Turlock, Paula Barrington-Schmidt (Dan) of Hughson, and Tracy Barrington Hubert of Clovis; 10 grandchildren; three step-children: William Carmo of Turlock, Lisa (Art) Thomas of Modesto, and Lori Love of Modesto; his three sisters: Linda Barrington Gonsalves of Turlock, Susan Barrington of Escalon, and Annette Barrington Gomes (Greg) of Newman.
A Memorial Service will be held at Allen Mortuary at 1 pm on Friday, Dec. 9th. Friends and family are invited to leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
