James “Jim” Albert Dick passed away peacefully with family by his side on February, 11, 2018 in Santa Cruz, CA at the age of 72.  

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Karen (Turlock) of 44 years, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and George Kokochak (Ruckersville, VA), son and daughter-in-law Elvin and Amanda Dick (Las Vegas, NV), son Jim Dick, Jr. (Turlock), grandchildren, Liam, Troy, and Reyn, 11 nieces and nephews, and 25 great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marge Silva, father and step-mother, James and Eileen Dick, sisters Marie Wolfe, Carolyn Dick, and Colleen Jones, and nephews Mike Alvernaz and Clay Jones.

During his childhood Jim lived in the Turlock, CA and Pontiac, IL areas.  He was active in 4-H, FFA, football, basketball, and track.  He is a graduate of Hilmar High School.  

After high school Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1976 and completed one tour of Vietnam.  Immediately after Jim and Karen married they moved to Ft. Hood, TX and then on to Germany.  Upon his honorable discharge Jim and Karen returned to the Turlock area and settled in to raise their family.  Jim ran a family dairy for 16 years while also volunteering at the Mountain View Fire Department, then retired as a courier for Silliker Labs.

Jim stayed very active coaching and supporting his children in softball, baseball, 4-H and other sporting activities.  He coached baseball and softball for Mountain View Chatom and varsity softball at Central Catholic High School.  Jim was also very passionate about fishing and could often be found on the water with friends from the surrounding communities.  Later in life he became active in the V.F.W. Post 3199.

A visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary, Monday March 5th from 5:30-7:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life and Reception on Tuesday, March 6th at 1:00pm, also at Allen Mortuary in Turlock.  

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Jim’s honor to one of the following: Letters to Santa, 1614 Liberty Court, Turlock, CA 95382 or Modesto V.F.W. Post 3199 2801 Hatch Rd, Modesto, CA 95358.
