Jerry was born in Martinez to George and Sadie Carter. He lived there until the 6th grade then moved to a farm in Turlock. He graduated from Turlock High and met his future wife, Martha, whom he married in 1956. He was in the National Guard for two years, and went to work at Shell Oil in Martinez in 1955. He retired at age 51 after 30 years at Shell.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha, children, Ken (Janet) and Julie (Mike), four lovely granddaughters, Jennifer, Marissa (Brandon), Heather, and Nicole (Ronald), two precious great-grandkids, Kellan and Addison, and three sisters, Linda (Pruett), Nadine (Mike), and Donna. He is preceded in death by brothers Waverly (Dorie) and Michael, and sister, Betty.

Jerry traveled to many places during his retirement. He loved to fish, golf, and work in his garden. He was known as the “tomato man”. He was a wonderful husband, father, and papa and will be greatly missed.

We would like to thank all of the caretakers at Aegis of Pleasant Hill and Hospice of the East Bay. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist, Turlock. Memorial donations may be made to a dementia charity of your choice.
