John was born in Danville, CA to John and Mary Lewis. He and his four siblings were raised in the bay area and later relocated to Denair.

John graduated from Hughson High School. He married his sweet heart and soul mate, Minnie on June 7, 1960, and together they raised their two children. 

John enlisted in the Navy and served two years; then he transferred into the Air Force and served for 24 years. During his time in the service he worked as an aircraft maintenance machinist during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He was known for his meticulous building skills, mechanical “know how”, his work ethic and his boyish grin.  He enjoyed working on cars, working with wood and watching old westerns.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Minnie Lea Lewis; sisters Lillian Mora and Lorraine Medeiros; children Mike Lewis and Jeff (Kristen) Lewis; grandchildren Dustin (Kylie) Lewis and great grandchild Henley of Fresno and grandchild Brandon Lewis of Turlock.

John is preceded in death by his brother Edward Lewis and sister Rosemarie Medeiros. 

Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 1:00p.m. also at Allen Mortuary.  Military interment will follow the funeral at Turlock Memorial Park.  Please share your memories at www.AllenMortuary.com.
