Manuel Duarte Silveira Jr.

Manuel Duarte Silveira Jr. “Manuel Juca” age 66, passed away Feb. 11, at Emanuel Medical Center with his loved ones by his side. He was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Cedros, Faial, Açores. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1959. His family worked at their cousins Frank & Mary Brindeiro’s dairy in Hilmar for five years. In 1965 they purchased cows and started their own dairy on Ferreira Ranch on Faith Home Road in Hilmar. In 1970 he married the love of his life Lucy Marie Toste and in 1972 they purchased land from Mr. & Mrs. Mayfield on Short Avenue in Hilmar where they made their life together.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, Holy Rosary Y.M.I. number 44, P.F.S.A. of Stevinson composed of the former SES number 18 of Stevinson, Cabrillo Club number 30 of Hilmar, Holstein Association, Merced County Farm Bureau and Farmer’s Union.
He is survived by his wife of 39 and a half years, Lucy Silveira, son Manuel (Nelia) Silveira III, daughter AnnaMarie Silveira, his pride and joy grandson Xavier Manuel Silveira and soon to be born grandchild, all of Hilmar. He is also survived by his brothers Joe Silveira of Hilmar, Mario Silveira of Hanford, Tony Silveira of Hilmar and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Maria Silveira Sr. and infant daughter Dalia Marie Silveira.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Home, 286 W. Main St. in Turlock.
There will be a Rosary on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church followed by burial at Hilmar Cemetary. Donations may be made in his memory to the Holy Rosary New Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 429, Hilmar, Calif.
