Manuel Joseph Alvernaz was born at home to Antonio and Mary Alvernaz in Turlock, CA on January 12, 1933.  He passed away at home, peacefully, on November 28, 2015.

He attended Central Elementary and graduated from Turlock High School in 1951.  He met the love of his life JoAnn Santos and they were married in 1954.  Manuel served in the United States Army in the 1st Armored Division and when discharged, he and JoAnn started a small dairy on Fulkerth Road.  They sold that dairy and later became partners in El Katrina Dairy.

He was a farmer.  He worked hard, treated his neighbors fairly, and loved God and his family.

Manuel and his son Mike built a modified pull tractor (Nightmare), and competed in many pulls with fellow members of the Mt. View Pull Team.

Manuel loved to visit, at the coffee shop in the early morning or on a canal bank between irrigation changes.  He loved talking to anyone, anywhere, anytime, and finding out about them.

Manuel was preceded in death by his beloved son, Mike Alvernaz, his parents Antonio and Mary Alvernaz, and his in-laws, Elvin and Katie Santos.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, JoAnn, his daughters, Debi (Jon) Fletcher and Tami (Mike) Plaa, his grandsons, Dallas (Karly) Plaa, Garrett (Chelsie) Fletcher, Austin Plaa, Derek (Heather) Alvernaz, and Brad Fletcher, his great grandchildren, Kaydence Fletcher, Sienna Plaa and Ryder Plaa, his brother George (Deni) Alvernaz, sisters-in-law Kathy Santos and Karen (Jim) Dick, and his much loved nieces and nephews.
