Mrs. Maria Alvarina Souto passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, January 12, 2017, surrounded by her family.  She was 66 years old and was born in Pedro Miguel, Faial, Açores, to Jose and Alvarina Rosa.  She had lived in the Turlock area for the last 44 years.  She battled like a warrior against cancer for over 21 years, especially the last five years.

Mrs. Souto is survived by her husband of 46 years, Manuel Souto, and her daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Al McCarty.  She leaves an aunt, four first cousins, and many second cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews all over the United States and Portugal.

She was a well-respected housecleaner for over 30 years and made many long-lasting friendships.  She was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock.  For many years she volunteered her time in the kitchen preparing and serving food for the Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Celebration at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  While her daughter was involved with the Sacred Heart 4-H Club, Mrs. Souto served as a project leader for ten years.

 A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with a rosary to follow on Mon., Jan. 23, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, CA. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tues., Jan, 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1200 Lyons Ave., Turlock, CA. An Entombment will follow at Turlock Memorial Park, Sunset Mausoleum, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, CA. 

There will be a small reception immediately following at Turlock Funeral Home.  Food may be delivered to Turlock Funeral Home starting at 8 a.m. on Tue., Jan 24.  Please do not bring food to the house.
