Maria F. Borges, 75 of Modesto, died Dec. 11 in Manteca. She was born in Ladeira, Grande, Terceira, Azores in 1934.

Maria was a homemaker for 44 years and a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Modesto. She was a member of P.P.A. of Modesto. She enjoyed gardening and loved to go to church to worship God. She liked to spend time at her daughter’s house and in her son’s backyard.

Maria is survived by her son, Candido Amar Borges and his wife, Fernanda, of Modesto; daughter, Marie Vieira and her husband, Daniel, of Escalon; sisters, Maria de Lourdes Galhano of Hanford and Leotina Lopes Ventura of Terceira, Azores; and grandchildren, Alice Vieira and Marisa Vieira, both of Escalon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Candido Borges.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 at St. Stanislaus Church.  A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 709 J. St., Modesto.  Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
