Marina K. Atherton, 60, of Modesto, was born in Inglewood and passed away unexpectedly Thursday at Doctors Medical Center. 

Marina moved to Modesto in 1959, and attended local schools graduating from Davis High School in 1969.  In 1970 she married George Atherton.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting, and baking throughout the year.  Every holiday was made special by her artistic touch in the kitchen, making her treats unique and much appreciated by her loved ones.  She also liked pottery-making and gardening with her grandchildren, especially in her strawberry patch.  In recent years she enjoyed playing bingo on facebook.

Marina is survived by her husband, George Atherton; daughters, Tiffany Atherton and Kimberly Padilla; parents, Margaret and James Dutey; and sisters, Linda (Loren) Ellis, Patricia (George) Gill and Lynette (Tom) Bostrom.  She also leaves son-in-law, David DuCharme; and grandchildren, Shaylayna, Trevor and Sarah Tedore, Seth and Briggete DuCharme and Brienna and Alyse Padilla.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock.  Following the ceremony, friends are invited to gather at Assembly of God Church, 2007 Fifth St. (at Fox Rd.), Hughson. For those who wish, food may be delivered to the church after 1:30 p.m.
