Mary Rose Walter, 87, a former resident of Turlock and a current resident of Sugar Pine, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 18 surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Modesto, where she attended school. Mary married Verne A. Walter on May 19, 1941. Together they owned and worked their own business, Walter’s Photo Studio in Turlock before retiring to the Sugar Pine area.
Mary was a very active member of Saint Michael & All Angels’ Church of Standard. She served on the Bishop’s Committee and many other committees as well. Mary also served as a volunteer at Medic Alert in Turlock and the Interfaith Group in Sonora. Mary was a member of the Red Hat Society, and served her community as an auxiliary member of the Sugar Pine – Mi Wuk Village Volunteer Fire Department, helping to raise funds for the volunteer fire department. She was well liked by everyone and will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by two sons; Verne L. Walter and his wife, Ruth and Gary D. Walter and his wife, Cheryl; grandson, Verne G. Walter and his wife, Jill; granddaughter, Charlotte K. Walter; grandson, Shon Walter and his wife, Rosanna; and great grandchildren, Trinity Walter, Orion Walter, Carlos Walter and Isabella.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosemary C. Walter; her first husband, Verne A. Walter; and her second husband, Cleland W. Rudy.
A memorial service will be held at noon on March 13 at Saint Michael & All Angels’ Church, 19632 Highway 108, Standard, CA. Viewing and interment will follow at 4 p.m. on March 13 at Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist, Turlock.
