Ramon Raymond Castro Meza

Raymond Meza, 84, was born in Brawley, CA, to the late Esteban and Guadalupe Meza.  A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he died at his home in El Paso, TX.

Raymond grew up in Turlock and attended Lowell School, graduating from Turlock High School in 1950.  He was a scholar and member of C.S.F. while a student there.

He joined the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean war, where he attained the rank of captain.  Later he transferred stateside to take charge of the Marine Battalions at Treasure Island.  He graduated from U. C. Berkeley and Thunderbird Trade School and married Joan Alexander with whom he had two sons, Dr. Alexander Meza and Randy Meza, who survive him.

\Mr. Meza is also survived by his wife, Ligia “Lee” Meza, son Bryan Devine, two grandsons, two granddaughters, sister Lupe Avila of Turlock, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by siblings Steve Meza (Sgt., U.S. Army, WWII), Ronald Meza (Sgt. Maj., U. S. Marines, Korea & Vietnam), Jennie Garcia, and Rosie Alonza. 

A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., July 2, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., with committal services to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
