Richard Mendoza

Richard was born in Merced to Manuel and May Mendoza and passed away at the age of 85 after an extended illness.  After high school Richard joined the United States Navy during the Korean War where he served proudly from 1952-1956.  Upon returning home he met and married Barbara (Sipes) Mendoza and together they shared almost 62 years of marriage.

Richard worked for Thorsen’s Plumbing for over 30 years and also for Home Lumber for a time.  After retiring he enjoyed working on Uncle Tony’s almond ranch for 15 years.  He and Barbara enjoyed going on cruises, making weekly trips to Black Oak Casino and playing cards.  He was a member of Turlock American Legion and SIRS.

Richard is survived by his wife Barbara Mendoza; daughters Cheryl Alves and Teri (Frank) Alves; grandchildren Angela (Art) Garcia, John Alves, David Alves, Dustin Alves, Dylan Alves and Mariah Alves; great grandchildren Draedon Garcia, Addison Garcia, Grayson Garcia and Jayce Alves.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Community Hospice 4368 Spyres Way Modesto, CA 95356.

The family will be hosting a time for sharing memories and paying respects at Allen Mortuary on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 3:00-5:00p.m.  Committal with military honors will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 12:30p.m.
