Velma Louise Deckard, a loving and devoted mother, is now in the arms of her Lord.  Born in Prairie Grove, Arkansas in the spring of 1927 to Claude and Mae Faddis, Velma was raised with two sisters and a brother.  The family moved to California in 1935 and settled in Stanislaus County.

Meeting Phillip Deckard changed Velma’s life and they were married in the summer of 1944.  As a loving married couple they had five beautiful children.

Velma had tremendous drive, was tenacious, and a voracious reader.  She loved her church and church family, but most of all she loved her family and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Velma’s career as a USDA meat inspector spanned 25 years.

Velma is survived by her children Woran (Debbie), Wayne (Diane) and Randy (Jeanette) Deckard, Kathee (Berwyn) Shakespeare and Colleen Winters; sister Wilma Abbott; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Velma is preceded in death by her husband and parents; siblings Velina Baptista and Jack Faddis.
