Dear Editor,
The most common argument to vote Jim Reape for mayor is highly illogical. The argument goes something like this. In 2020, Mayor Bublak was opposed to Measure A, the sales tax increase. Proponents for Reape say, because Bublak was against Measure A, we should vote for the man who wasn’t involved with enforcement of Measure A.
Measure A is the first time I’ve seen a governmental body in California correctly use its allocated funds without corruption, be transparent about the money and project that is to be completed, and implement the purpose of this measure without getting bogged down by bureaucracy by its detractors.
Jim Reape had nothing to do with this. Mayor Bublak, despite her opposition, humbled herself and fulfilled the will of the voters. On his website, Reape states, “As Mayor I will ensure that our roads are never neglected again.” He’s too late. Measure A is the reason our roads will never be neglected again, not Jim Reape.
If Mayor Bublak’s opposition to Measure A is the main issue for Reape, then let’s remove Mayor Bublak. But why replace her with Reape? Why not vote for Coelho? Couldn’t she do just as good a job as Reape? I trust U.S. servicemembers in public office. So, I’d vote for Coelho over Reape unless Reape can tell us, in detail, how he’ll make Turlock greater than it already is.
I don’t trust someone who hasn’t been in public office to lead my city whether it be Reape or Coelho. I’d rather vote a council member. When things are going well in a community, the leadership shouldn’t be removed. I trust our incumbent. Let’s elect Mayor Amy Bublak to another 4 years.
