Cerah Moren of Pitman High School participated in the New Balance High School Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on June 17 in Greensboro, NC, earning her a sixth place finish.

Moren and three other Pitman teammates competed in 2015 championships, in which Moren took ninth in the javelin, missing the medal stand by three spots.

"Last year at nationals it was a monsoon, the rain wouldn't stop. This year we had 15 mph winds and it was blowing the javelin all over" Moren said.

It looked as if this year's focus was solely on earning a podium spot and High School All-American status and the final result was a throw of 139'11”, six feet off of her season's best, but good enough for a sixth place podium finish.

"I was excited to make the final, and hit a big throw on my 4th attempt. I was so happy to earn it and achieve my goal of medaling,” said Moren.

Moren, who will be entering her senior season with the Pride, has now been able to achieve a medal in the Javelin during her high school career at the four major U.S. High School competitions: New Balance Nationals, Texas Relays, Penn Relays and Oregon Relays.

Moren will be in Clovis at the United States U20 Championships today.

The U20 competition will feature four of the New Balance medalists, along with the top eight collegiate freshmen competing for two spots on the U.S. national team that will compete in Poland next month.

Moren will then join 18 other Pitman track athletes at the Junior Olympic qualifying meet at Sacramento State on Saturday and Sunday.
