Former LSU Tiger Juliana Santos, a highly decorated softball standout from Newman, has joined the Cal State Stanislaus softball coaching staff, announced head coach Jan Schefkowitz.
Santos was a 2009 All-South Region player at Louisiana State University, where she was a four-year starter, mostly at shortstop. In 213 games as a Tiger, Santos racked up 148 hits with 27 doubles, 86 RBIs, 64 walks and 30 stolen bases.
During Santos' four seasons in Baton Rouge, the LSU Tigers appeared in the NCAA Championships four times, including an appearance in the 2012 Women's College World Series.
"Warrior Softball will better with Juliana. Her enthusiasm, work ethic, and playing experience are welcome additions to our program," Schefkowitz said. "We are excited that a local athlete of her talents has come back to the Valley."
Most recently, Santos was the varsity head coach at Modesto's Gregroi High School. She also worked as an assistant coach for the Ripon Rampage club team.
Santos was a two-time conference MVP at Orestimba High School in Newman. Orestimba won two sectional championships and went undefeated in 2007. In 2008, she was named small school California Player of the Year and Sacramento Bee Player of the Year after hitting .667 with 11 home runs, 21 doubles and 55 RBIs.
