Two standout female athletes, Hailey Ward and Sandra Tovar, were once again awarded donations by The Letters to Santa Charity to help chase their athletic dreams in the sport of wrestling and boxing, respectively.
The pair, both students at Turlock High, received a similar donation from the nonprofit organization a little more than a year ago after being identified as special talents in the community.
“We see our outstanding female student athletes going big places and we don’t want anything to hold them back,” Letters to Santa president Justin Crone said after last year’s donation.
The donation will help fund a long list of trips for both athletes as their competition schedules routinely take them all cross the country.
For Tovar, her schedule includes appearances at the 5th Annual Green Belt Challenge in El Monte, CA, the 2019 National Junior Olympics in Madison, WI, The Gene Lewis Invitational in Mesa, AZ and the Olympic Trials & National Championships in Lake Charles, LA.
As for Ward, who has already competed in five state and national tournaments this year, she has two major competitions remaining with the Junior Duals in Tulsa, OK and the Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND.
Although the generous donations from Letters to Santa are a big boon to their competitive efforts, both Ward and Tovar continue to seek donations and sponsorships year-round. Ward has launched a GoFundMe campaign which can be found at bit.ly/HaileyWardFargo2019 and Tovar has set up several services for donations which can be accessed via her Instagram handle @SandraTovarBoxing and email SandraTovarBoxing@gmail.com
